THE FUND

CULTURE CAP7 Fund

Culture CAP7 Fund is a regulated investment fund to foster and develop the cultural and audiovisual ecosystem in Spain. It’s managed by BlackPearl Capital Management SGEIC, with offices in the Basque Country and Madrid.

WHY WAS CAP7 FUND SET UP?

“The development of the audiovisual and cultural industry is growing exponentially. Economic forecasts confirm it will continue to expand, driven by major studios seeking new filming locations — with Spain, and the Basque Country in particular, becoming preferred destinations. This will further strengthen our already established market.

Given its deep knowledge of the sector and strong financial capacity, this fund is committed to boosting the production and distribution segments, thereby promoting original cultural content.

Other related industries — such as video games, technology, and auxiliary services — will grow alongside it, helping to build a more ambitious cultural and entertainment sector.”

The position of the cultural industry in Spain suggests that this is an ideal time to develop a vehicle for public-private partnership to provide the necessary support and management to deal with this successfully.

INVESTMENT AREAS

PRODUCERS, DISTRIBUTION, PROJECTS & IDEAS

The foundation of any audiovisual production lies in ideas. That’s why one of our investment areas focuses on financing projects through equity or financial investment to promote content creation.

We also support the growth of select production or distribution companies facing expansion challenges. By becoming part of the CAP7 ecosystem, they are strengthened not only through our capital and management, but also through the scalability they gain and the synergies we actively pursue among our portfolio companies.

If the production industry creates content, the distribution industry ensures it reaches further.

FILMING LOCATIONS

Spain aims to become Europe’s audiovisual hub, due in part to its excellent and diverse locations. However, certain geographic areas may face a shortage of sound stages or production facilities.

It is therefore advisable to promote initiatives for the creation of such spaces.

ANCILLARY COMPANIES

In view of the growing volume of business, many companies in the audiovisual sector are seeking to boost their presence in the Basque Country, the Canary Islands and elsewhere in Spain.

This has in turn led to related companies setting themselves the same goal: in the business of post-editing, visual effects, VFX, hotel and restaurant chains to accommodate crews, as well as costume and catering firms, to give just a few examples.

Special mention should be made of a related content-creating industry: video games.

TECHNICAL STAFF

With the expansion in audiovisual production, the demand for qualified people has risen. To be able to provide camera operators, lighting, photography and casting specialists and all the other disciplines necessary, school and universities with dependable training programmes are needed.

CULTURAL CONSULTING

To complete CAP7’s audiovisual ecosystem, our team is able to provide consulting and support in the financial structuring of projects, ensuring comprehensive assistance to production companies.
Our support is not limited to local productions — we also assist international productions seeking a financial partner in the region, a partner who can help with all aspects of production, including financing, coordination with local suppliers, and presenting the project to the relevant authorities.”

IMPACT OF AN AUDIOVISUAL PROJECT

Unlike in other industries, audiovisual productions have an impact with a multiplier effect on the economy in general. There is even the well-known “spillover” effect, involving benefits a long time after the production is completed in sectors where there was no immediate impact.

DIRECT IMPACT

The output of the audiovisual industry is increased to satisfy demand (investment).

INDIRECT IMPACT

This increase will also require increased output from its suppliers, offering more raw materials and associated services (make-up, costumes, set design and so on).

INDUCED IMPACT

This will also lead to a rise in pay, which will in part be spent within the economy. Increased spending by households will require more end products and goods and services.

THE SPILLOVER EFFECT

This is taken to mean the long-term impact resulting from the initial investment, which lasts and extends to other sectors that were initially unaffected.
